The Lugo Town Hall, located in the Praza Maior, is a prime example of Baroque civil architecture in Galicia; it was designed by Lucas Ferro Caaveiro, and construction began in 1738. The building, constructed of granite masonry, features a two-story façade: the ground floor includes a porticoed gallery with eight round arches, while the main floor is distinguished by bay windows with exquisite wrought-iron balustrades. In the central axis, the cut-out pediment displays the royal coat of arms and the city’s crest, surmounted by the clock tower, an addition from 1871. This civic landmark in Lugo’s historic center is framed by a pedestrian plaza that serves as a vibrant social hub, equipped with classic street furniture. The flags of Spain, the city, and the European Union, visible on the central balcony, underscore the institutional solemnity of City Hall, which retains its administrative and ceremonial functions, affirming the enduring nature of municipal power within this monumental complex.
