The Ribeira River Beach, part of the Albufeira do Azibo Protected Landscape in Macedo de Cavaleiros, is a geographic enclave of exceptional ecological value in northeastern Trás-os-Montes. This ecosystem, resulting from the damming of the Azibo River—a right-bank tributary of the Sabor River—stands out for the quality of its waters and its extensive sandy beach, which has been awarded the Blue Flag and designated an Accessible Beach. The image captures the serenity of the water’s surface, framed by riparian vegetation dominated by native species, set within a landscape of oak groves and juniper thickets characteristic of the region. Classified as a Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 Network, the area balances biodiversity conservation with recreational use and non-motorized water sports. The visual composition highlights the transition between the sandy shoreline and the surrounding agricultural landscape, underscoring the symbiosis between human intervention and natural heritage in a region that faithfully preserves its rural identity and regional environmental integrity.
