A Viela das Cores: Um Retrato do Comércio Amalfitano
Uma das características viuzze — vielas estreitas — de Positano, núcleo urbano da Costa Amalfitana cuja implantação é condicionada pela vertente abrupta que desce para o mar Tirreno. A topografia determina uma morfologia urbana escalonada, articulada por escadarias, passagens e percursos estreitos que vencem os desníveis e estruturam a ligação entre os diferentes níveis edificados. A arquitetura integra-se neste sistema de ocupação da encosta, cuja configuração histórica é reconhecida pela UNESCO como expressão da adaptação humana à geografia costeira. As fachadas caiadas e policromas, visíveis na imagem, integram a expressão cromática do tecido construído, mas não deve atribuir-se-lhes, sem maior fundamentação, uma função específica de regulação térmica. No enquadramento surge a loja «Idee D'Arte», dedicada à joalharia artesanal, incluindo peças produzidas com sea glass recolhido nas praias de Positano, segundo informação do próprio estabelecimento. A atual centralidade turística de Positano consolidou-se sobretudo no século XX, sem eliminar a estrutura urbana histórica.
One of the defining features of Positano—its narrow alleys—is that of this town on the Amalfi Coast, whose layout is shaped by the steep slope descending to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The topography gives rise to a terraced urban morphology, connected by stairways, passageways, and narrow paths that bridge the elevation changes and structure the connection between the different built-up levels. The architecture is integrated into this system of hillside settlement, whose historical configuration is recognized by UNESCO as an expression of human adaptation to the coastal geography. The whitewashed and polychrome facades, visible in the image, contribute to the chromatic expression of the built environment, but one should not attribute to them, without further justification, a specific function of thermal regulation. In the background is the “Idee D’Arte” shop, dedicated to handmade jewelry, including pieces crafted from sea glass collected on the beaches of Positano, according to information provided by the shop itself. Positano’s current status as a tourist hub was established primarily in the 20th century, without eliminating its historic urban structure.
