Sob a arcada exterior do Palácio Real de Madrid desenha se um corredor monumental de arcos repetidos, marcado pela alternância entre pilares de granito e abóbadas revestidas a tijolo. Esta solução construtiva, comum na arquitetura palaciana do século XVIII, assegura estabilidade e adequada distribuição de cargas, ao mesmo tempo que cria uma perspetiva longa e ritmada, concebida para cerimónias e para circulação protegida. O atual Palácio Real foi erguido no local do antigo Alcázar, destruído por um incêndio em 1734, e tornou se símbolo do poder borbónico e de subsequentes reorganizações urbanas em Madrid. A galeria funciona como transição entre o espaço público e o recinto régio, moderando luz e temperatura e facilitando a leitura dos planos clássicos da fachada. Ao fundo, a presença de figuras em escala humana reforça a monumentalidade do conjunto e a intenção cénica do percurso, projetada para intensificar a perceção progressiva dos volumes e da ordem compositiva.
Beneath the exterior arcade of the Royal Palace of Madrid lies a monumental corridor of repeating arches, characterized by the alternation of granite pillars and brick-clad vaults. This structural solution, common in 18th-century palace architecture, ensures stability and proper load distribution, while creating a long, rhythmic perspective designed for ceremonies and sheltered passage. The current Royal Palace was built on the site of the former Alcázar, destroyed by a fire in 1734, and became a symbol of Bourbon power and of subsequent urban reorganizations in Madrid. The gallery serves as a transition between the public space and the royal enclosure, moderating light and temperature and facilitating the interpretation of the façade’s classical design. In the background, the presence of life-size figures reinforces the monumentality of the complex and the scenic intent of the route, designed to intensify the progressive perception of the volumes and the compositional order.
