Paisagem costeira e vida marítima na Praia de Santa Cruz
A Praia de Santa Cruz, situada na freguesia de Silveira, concelho de Torres Vedras, é uma das mais emblemáticas estâncias balneares da Costa de Prata portuguesa. A sua ocupação turística remonta ao final do século XIX e início do século XX, tendo conhecido grande expansão nas décadas de 1930 e 1940, quando se afirmou como destino de veraneio da burguesia lisboeta. O paredão observado na imagem, com bancos corridos sombreados por pérgulas pintadas de vermelho e branco, integra o passeio pedonal que percorre a orla marítima, oferecendo miradouros sobre o areal e sobre os afloramentos rochosos característicos desta costa. Ao fundo, destaca-se o Penedo do Guincho, formação rochosa isolada no mar que constitui o principal ex-líbris paisagístico da praia. Sobre a arriba ergue-se ainda o antigo posto de vigia, hoje elemento patrimonial associado à identidade local. A praia distingue-se pela qualidade das águas atlânticas, sendo procurada por surfistas e praticantes de bodyboard devido à consistência das ondulações provenientes de noroeste.
Santa Cruz Beach, located in the parish of Silveira, in the municipality of Torres Vedras, is one of the most iconic seaside resorts on Portugal’s Silver Coast. Its history as a tourist destination dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and it experienced significant growth in the 1930s and 1940s, when it established itself as a summer retreat for Lisbon’s bourgeoisie. The seawall shown in the image, with long benches shaded by red-and-white-painted pergolas, is part of the pedestrian promenade that runs along the waterfront, offering viewpoints overlooking the sandy beach and the rocky outcrops characteristic of this coastline. In the background stands Penedo do Guincho, an isolated rock formation in the sea that serves as the beach’s main scenic landmark. Perched atop the cliff is the old lookout post, now a heritage site associated with the local identity. The beach is renowned for the quality of its Atlantic waters and is popular with surfers and bodyboarders due to the consistent waves coming from the northwest.
