Freixeda do Torrão ao Amanhecer
Nas primeiras horas da manhã, as hortas de Freixeda do Torrão, localidade do concelho de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, evidenciam a persistência de uma agricultura familiar de subsistência característica do Riba Côa. Os talhões, compartimentados por muros baixos de pedra, delimitam propriedades e contribuem para reduzir a erosão e reter a humidade do solo. A proximidade de pequenas linhas de água e de poços tradicionais permite regas de apoio e favorece a manutenção de culturas adaptadas ao interior raiano: couves, batata, cebola e feijão, organizados em rotações simples que asseguram produção ao longo do ano. In the early morning hours, the vegetable gardens of Freixeda do Torrão—a village in the municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo—highlight the persistence of the family-based subsistence farming characteristic of the Riba Côa region. The plots, divided by low stone walls, demarcate properties and help reduce erosion and retain soil moisture. The proximity of small streams and traditional wells allows for supplemental irrigation and supports the cultivation of crops adapted to the inland border region: cabbage, potatoes, onions, and beans, organized into simple crop rotations that ensure year-round production. In the background, the village reveals a compact grid of stone dwellings, where granite features prominently, consistent with the area’s granite outcrops.
