The façade of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Estella overlooks the former Rúa de los Peregrinos—now Calle de Curtidores—the historic main route of the French Way to Santiago de Compostela, underscoring the church’s role as a landmark for travelers and pilgrims. Designed as a three-nave church, with a core dating back to the Romanesque period, the complex remained unfinished; however, the main portal, begun in the second half of the 13th century and completed well into the 14th century, has become one of the most significant examples of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture in Navarre. The deeply flared pointed arch features multiple carved archivolts supported by capitals depicting scenes from the Passion and Resurrection of Christ, and keystones adorned with angels holding the instruments of the Passion. At the bottom of the façade, the figures of the Apostle James, a bishop, and other saints stand out, while the upper section features niches depicting the Apostles, forming an iconographic program that intertwines pilgrimage, devotion to the Holy Sepulcher, and the theology of salvation.
