Plaça de l'Ajuntament: O Pulso Cívico de Valência
A Plaça de l'Ajuntament constitui o coração administrativo e social de Valência, situando-se no distrito histórico de Ciutat Vella. De planta triangular, esta praça resultou da reestruturação urbana iniciada em finais do século XIX, após a demolição do antigo Convento de São Francisco, consolidando-se como espaço cívico nas primeiras décadas do século XX. À esquerda observa-se o Hotel Venecia, integrado num edifício de traçado eclético com cúpula angular característica do urbanismo burguês valenciano. Ao centro destaca-se a fonte ornamental rodeada por canteiros floridos, elemento simbólico onde decorrem tradicionalmente os atos da Crida das festas das Falles, declaradas Património Cultural Imaterial da Humanidade pela UNESCO em 2016. À direita ergue-se o Edifício Rialto, obra racionalista de Cayetano Borso di Carminati concluída em 1939, que alberga o histórico Teatro Rialto e a Filmoteca de Valência. Os candeeiros modernistas em ferro fundido, as palmeiras e os bancos articulam um espaço pedonal recentemente reabilitado, refletindo a aposta municipal na peatonalização do centro histórico.
Plaça de l'Ajuntament is the administrative and social heart of Valencia, located in the historic district of Ciutat Vella. With a triangular layout, this square was the result of urban redevelopment that began in the late 19th century, following the demolition of the former Convent of San Francisco, and it established itself as a civic space in the early decades of the 20th century. On the left stands the Hotel Venecia, housed in an eclectic building with an angular dome characteristic of Valencian bourgeois urban architecture. In the center is the ornamental fountain surrounded by flower beds, a symbolic feature where the traditional “Crida” ceremonies of the Falles festival are held; the Falles were designated Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2016. On the right stands the Rialto Building, a rationalist work by Cayetano Borso di Carminati completed in 1939, which houses the historic Rialto Theater and the Valencia Film Archive. The modernist cast-iron streetlamps, palm trees, and benches frame a recently renovated pedestrian area, reflecting the city’s commitment to pedestrianizing the historic center.
