Neptuno diante do Palau: mitologia e engenharia em Valência
A Cidade das Artes e das Ciências, em Valência, é um dos maiores complexos culturais e arquitetónicos da Europa, erguido no antigo leito do rio Turia, desviado após a devastadora cheia de 1957. Iniciado em 1998, o conjunto integra várias obras emblemáticas de Santiago Calatrava, entre as quais o Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, concluído em 2005, com mais de 70 metros de altura e revestimento em trencadís branco. Em primeiro plano, destaca-se a escultura de Neptuno, em diálogo com o espelho de água, evocando a ligação histórica de Valência ao Mediterrâneo. À esquerda surge L’Umbracle, e ao longe a torre do Ágora, elementos integrados nos Jardins do Turia, um parque linear que atravessa a cidade e constitui um dos seus principais corredores verdes urbanos.
The City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia is one of Europe’s largest cultural and architectural complexes, built on the former bed of the Turia River, which was diverted after the devastating flood of 1957. Begun in 1998, the complex includes several iconic works by Santiago Calatrava, among them the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, completed in 2005, which stands over 70 meters tall and is clad in white trencadís. In the foreground stands the sculpture of Neptune, interacting with the reflecting pool, evoking Valencia’s historical connection to the Mediterranean. To the left is L’Umbracle, and in the distance, the Ágora tower—elements integrated into the Turia Gardens, a linear park that runs through the city and serves as one of its main urban green corridors.
