Do “Pequeno Tibete” ao Rio: Trilhos de Sistelo
No percurso entre Sistelo e o rio Vez, em direção à Ecovia do Vez, o caminho atravessa um bosque atlântico típico do Alto Minho, onde carvalhos e castanheiros se misturam com vegetação de sub-bosque e troncos cobertos de musgos e líquenes, num ambiente de elevada humidade e microclima influenciado pela proximidade do vale fluvial. Este tipo de coberto arbóreo tem sido historicamente gerido em mosaico: soutos para a castanha, madeira e lenha, e parcelas de mato utilizadas como cama de gado e fertilização dos campos. A rede de carreiros liga lugares e antigas rotas de trabalho, associadas à agricultura de montanha e à circulação entre as aldeias e as áreas de cultivo. A Ecovia do Vez recupera parte desta mobilidade, convertendo-a em infraestrutura pedestre e ciclável, e promovendo o turismo de natureza no concelho de Arcos de Valdevez.
On the route between Sistelo and the Vez River, heading toward the Vez Ecovia, the trail passes through an Atlantic forest typical of the Alto Minho region, where oak and chestnut trees mingle with understory vegetation and trunks covered in moss and lichen, in a highly humid environment with a microclimate influenced by the proximity of the river valley. This type of forest cover has historically been managed in a mosaic pattern: chestnut groves for chestnuts, timber, and firewood, and patches of scrubland used as grazing land for livestock and for fertilizing the fields. The network of trails connects places and ancient work routes associated with mountain agriculture and movement between villages and cultivated areas. The Vez Ecovia restores part of this mobility, converting it into infrastructure for walking and cycling, and promoting nature tourism in the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez.
