The image shows an architectural complex located in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the civic and commercial heart of Valencia, Spain. On the left, the yellow facade of the Teatre Rialto stands out. The building is an example of Rationalism with Art Deco influences; it was built in the 1930s and is currently managed by the Institut Valencià de Cultura, serving as a movie theater and theater venue that promotes cultural productions and screenings from the Valencian Film Archive. In the center of the photograph stands the Ateneo Mercantil de Valencia building, an institution founded in 1879 to meet the cultural and educational needs of commercial employees. The current building is based on the winning design from the 1927 competition by Juan de Zavala Lafora and José María Rivas Eulate, later developed with Fernando Arzadún Ibarraran, and constructed—with modifications—under the direction of Emilio Artal and Cayetano Borso between 1935 and 1941. The façade features neoclassical and eclectic elements, including arches, wrought-iron balconies, and sculptural ornamentation typical of the bourgeois architecture of the time. To the right, a building with modern lines contrasts with the two preceding ones, highlighting the architectural diversity of the square.
