O 'Camiño Vello' e a Paisagem Cultural da Ribeira Sacra
From the Santa Marta Lookout Point in the Ribeira Sacra, visitors can see a stretch of the Minho River valley, framed by forested slopes and riverbanks shaped by centuries of rural use. The viewing platform is part of the PR-G 249 hiking trail, the Camiño Vello de Aldosende, which revives ancient paths that once connected villages, farmland, and river crossings. The interpretive panel in the foreground provides visitors with context about the cultural landscape, where terraced vineyards and the presence of churches and monastic settlements have shaped human settlement since the Middle Ages. The dynamics of the Minho River—now partly regulated by hydraulic infrastructure—influence water levels and the formation of morning fog, highlighting the reflections that reveal the valley’s topography. The viewpoint thus serves as a prime spot for observation and environmental education along the trail, keeping alive the memory of this Galician region of unique historical significance.
