Geometria Celeste: As Nervuras Góticas da Lonja de la Seda
A imagem ilustra a abóbada de cruzaria estrelada do Salão das Colunas (Sala de Contratação) da Lota da Seda (Llotja de la Seda), em Valência, expoente maior do gótico civil valenciano e mediterrânico. Erigido em pleno Século de Ouro valenciano, este salão monumental foi executado entre 1483 e 1498 sob a direção documentada do arquiteto Pere Compte, coadjuvado inicialmente por Joan Ivarra. O espaço funcionava como centro nevrálgico de transações mercantis da Coroa de Aragão, cabendo a arbitragem dos litígios marítimos ao vizinho Consulado do Mar. As ogivas e terceletes de cantaria desenham uma malha geométrica ritmada por chaves de abóbada lavradas, destacando-se na composição a chave cruciforme policromada com os escudos heráldicos da cidade e do reino de Aragão. As nervuras nascem do feixe helicoidal das colunas, simulando palmeiras de pedra que ampliam o vão para as assembleias de mercadores. O conjunto arquitetónico foi classificado como Património Mundial pela UNESCO em 1996.
The image depicts the star-ribbed vault of the Hall of Columns (Sala de Contratação) at the Silk Exchange (Llotja de la Seda) in Valencia, the finest example of Valencian and Mediterranean civil Gothic architecture. Built during the height of Valencia’s Golden Age, this monumental hall was constructed between 1483 and 1498 under the documented direction of architect Pere Compte, initially assisted by Joan Ivarra. The space served as the nerve center of commercial transactions for the Crown of Aragon, while the neighboring Consulate of the Sea was responsible for arbitrating maritime disputes. The stone rib vaults and tercelets form a geometric grid punctuated by carved keystones, with the polychrome cruciform keystone—featuring the heraldic coats of arms of the city and the Kingdom of Aragon—standing out in the composition. The ribs emerge from the helical cluster of columns, resembling stone palm trees that expand the span for merchants’ assemblies. The architectural complex was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
