The Trindade Bridge in Valencia spans the former riverbed of the Turia River—which was converted into the Turia Gardens after the river’s course was diverted following the great flood of 1957. Built of stone in the early 15th century and rebuilt after the flood of 1517, this landmark of Valencian civil Gothic architecture features pointed arches supported by massive pillars with triangular voussoirs. The pedestrian and vehicular deck connects the historic district to the north bank, where the Royal Monastery of the Trinity (which gives the structure its name) is located, and, in the background, the Valencia Museum of Fine Arts, with its famous blue dome. Rising from the pedestals of the buttresses are the Baroque statues of Saint Thomas of Vilanova and Saint Louis Beltrán, sculpted by Giacomo Antonio Ponzanelli in 1693 and placed here in 1942, attesting to the civic and religious character of these historic urban thoroughfares.
