A memória dos funileiros no coração de Marraquexe
A Place des Ferblantiers (Praça dos Funileiros) situa-se no sector meridional da Medina de Marraquexe, junto ao Mellah, o bairro judaico cuja formação remonta ao reinado do sultão saadiano ʿAbd Allāh al-Ghālib, em 1558. O topónimo alude à concentração histórica de artesãos especializados na produção de objetos em folha-de-flandres, integrada na tradição de especialização profissional dos souks da medina. A praça articula este sector do tecido histórico com a área envolvente do Palácio Bahia e com os percursos que conduzem à Jemaa el-Fna, enquanto a proximidade da Kasbah evidencia a sobreposição de diferentes fases da estrutura urbana de Marraquexe. Place des Ferblantiers (Tinsmiths’ Square) is located in the southern part of the Medina of Marrakesh, next to the Mellah, the Jewish quarter whose origins date back to the reign of the Saadian sultan ʿAbd Allāh al-Ghālib in 1558. The name refers to the historical concentration of artisans specializing in the production of tinware, part of the tradition of professional specialization found in the medina’s souks. The square connects this section of the historic fabric with the area surrounding the Bahia Palace and with the paths leading to Jemaa el-Fna, while its proximity to the Kasbah highlights the overlapping of different phases in Marrakech’s urban structure. The image shows the current layout of the space, with its wide paving and palm trees, framed by shops and outdoor dining areas. Its spatial relationship with the Mellah, the Bahia Palace, and the Kasbah reflects the functional continuity of an urban sector integrated into the Medina of Marrakesh, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.
