A Cruz de Pedra no Caminho de Drave
Cruz de pedra fincada num afloramento granítico ao longo do PR14 – «Drave, Aldeia Mágica», percurso pedestre homologado no Arouca Geopark (UNESCO Global Geopark), no distrito de Aveiro. O trilho, com cerca de 4 km (8 km ida e volta), aproveita antigos caminhos de pé posto que, durante séculos, ligaram a aldeia de Regoufe à de Drave, encravada no Maciço da Gralheira, entre os vales dos rios Paiva e Paivó. Estas cruzes rupestres, talhadas em blocos ou hastes graníticas, cumpriam múltiplas funções: assinalavam bifurcações e limites de propriedade, invocavam proteção divina aos caminhantes e almocreves e, em certos casos, evocavam mortes ocorridas no local. A vegetação envolvente — sobreiros, carvalhos-alvarinhos, giestas e tojos — reflete o coberto autóctone do Maciço da Gralheira. Drave, sem estrada de acesso automóvel e desabitada desde o início do século XXI, é hoje símbolo do património rural do interior português e ponto alto deste itinerário pedestre de grande valor geológico, etnográfico e paisagístico.
A stone cross set into a granite outcrop along the PR14—“Drave, Magical Village”—an officially certified hiking trail in the Arouca Geopark (UNESCO Global Geopark), in the district of Aveiro. The trail, approximately 4 km long (8 km round trip), follows ancient footpaths that, for centuries, connected the village of Regoufe to that of Drave, nestled in the Gralheira Massif between the valleys of the Paiva and Paivó rivers. These rock crosses, carved from granite blocks or columns, served multiple purposes: they marked trail forks and property boundaries, invoked divine protection for travelers and pack animals, and, in some cases, commemorated deaths that occurred at the site. The surrounding vegetation—cork oaks, Alvarinho oaks, broom, and gorse—reflects the native vegetation of the Gralheira Massif. Drave, which has no road accessible by car and has been uninhabited since the early 21st century, is today a symbol of Portugal’s rural heritage and a highlight of this hiking trail of great geological, ethnographic, and scenic value.
