Piódão, uma das Aldeias Históricas de Portugal, situa-se na freguesia homónima, no concelho de Arganil, distrito de Coimbra. Implantada numa encosta da Serra do Açor, a povoação organiza-se em anfiteatro, com habitações dispostas em socalcos e ligadas por vielas, becos e escadarias. Predomina o recurso a materiais locais, sobretudo o xisto, visível nas paredes e na pavimentação, embora a construção tradicional combine rocha, argila, madeira e, pontualmente, lousa. As casas apresentam, em regra, coberturas de lousa e portas e janelas de madeira pintadas de azul. A explicação mais divulgada para esta cor — a disponibilidade exclusiva de tinta azul na loja local — pertence, contudo, ao domínio da tradição oral. O isolamento da aldeia ajudou a conservar o seu traçado e a arquitetura vernacular. Classificada como Imóvel de Interesse Público pelo Decreto n.º 95/78, de 12 de setembro, Piódão integra atualmente mecanismos de salvaguarda patrimonial e a rede das Aldeias Históricas de Portugal.

Piódão, one of Portugal’s Historic Villages, is located in the parish of the same name, in the municipality of Arganil, Coimbra district. Nestled on a slope of the Serra do Açor, the village is laid out in an amphitheater-like formation, with houses arranged in terraces and connected by narrow streets, alleys, and stairways. Local materials predominate, particularly schist, which is visible in the walls and paving, although traditional construction combines stone, clay, wood, and, occasionally, slate. The houses generally feature slate roofs and wooden doors and windows painted blue. The most widely accepted explanation for this color—the exclusive availability of blue paint at the local store—belongs, however, to the realm of oral tradition. The village’s isolation has helped preserve its layout and vernacular architecture. Classified as a Property of Public Interest by Decree No. 95/78 of September 12, Piódão is currently part of heritage preservation programs and the network of Historic Villages of Portugal.
