Colunata Honório de Lima: Porta Clássica das Termas do Gerês
A Colunata Honório de Lima, situada no centro da Vila do Gerês, freguesia de Vilar da Veiga, em pleno Parque Nacional da Peneda‑Gerês, constitui um dos elementos arquitetónicos mais representativos desta estância termal do norte de Portugal. Construída em 1926, segundo projeto do arquiteto Raul Lino, a estrutura homenageia Eduardo Honório de Lima, portuense que, nas décadas de 1920–1930, foi gerente da Empresa das Águas do Gerês e figura decisiva na afirmação das termas. As águas das Termas do Gerês, de composição tiossulfatada e bicarbonatada sódica, hipertermais e fracamente mineralizadas, são reconhecidas pelas suas propriedades terapêuticas, particularmente em afeções digestivas, metabólicas, reumáticas e hipertensão arterial. A colunata apresenta uma sucessão de colunas monolíticas em granito local, encimadas por uma cobertura que protege os utentes das intempéries durante o percurso entre o balneário termal e o Parque das Termas. Ao longo do alpendre coberto instalaram‑se pequenos comércios tradicionais que vendem artigos regionais, vestuário e recordações, preservando a função social do espaço enquanto zona de convívio dos aquistas.
The Honório de Lima Colonnade, located in the center of Vila do Gerês, in the parish of Vilar da Veiga, in the heart of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, is one of the most iconic architectural features of this spa town in northern Portugal. Built in 1926 according to a design by architect Raul Lino, the structure pays tribute to Eduardo Honório de Lima, a native of Porto who, in the 1920s and 1930s, served as manager of the Empresa das Águas do Gerês and played a decisive role in establishing the thermal baths. The waters of the Gerês Thermal Baths—which contain thiosulfate and sodium bicarbonate, are hyperthermal, and have low mineral content—are renowned for their therapeutic properties, particularly in treating digestive, metabolic, and rheumatic conditions, as well as high blood pressure. The colonnade features a series of monolithic columns made of local granite, topped by a roof that shelters visitors from the elements as they walk between the spa building and the Parque das Termas. Along the covered porch, small traditional shops have set up shop, selling regional goods, clothing, and souvenirs, thereby preserving the space’s social function as a gathering place for visitors.
