Porta Santa: limiar barroco do perdão jacobeu
A Porta Santa da Catedral de Santiago de Compostela, na Praza da Quintana, constitui um dos acessos mais simbólicos do santuário jacobeu, articulando arquitetura barroca e tradição jubilar. Integrada no conjunto das antigas portas menores da catedral, abre-se no lado oriental da cabeceira, perante o antigo convento de San Paio, donde lhe veio o nome de Porta de San Paio. A fachada atual, concluída na segunda metade do século XVII, funciona como antecâmara monumental da verdadeira Porta Santa românica, no interior, associada ao antigo Pórtico da Glória do século XII. Também designada Porta do Perdão, abre apenas nos Anos Santos Jacobeus — quando 25 de julho calha a domingo — e permite aos peregrinos obter indulgência plenária, segundo a bula Regis aeterni de Alexandre III, datada de 1179.
The Holy Door of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in the Praza da Quintana, is one of the most symbolic entrances to the Jacobean shrine, blending Baroque architecture with the tradition of the Jubilee. Part of the complex of the cathedral’s ancient minor doors, it opens on the eastern side of the apse, facing the former convent of San Paio, from which it derives its name, the Door of San Paio. The current façade, completed in the second half of the 17th century, serves as a monumental antechamber to the true Romanesque Holy Door inside, associated with the 12th-century Portico of Glory. Also known as the Gate of Forgiveness, it opens only during Holy Years of St. James—when July 25 falls on a Sunday—and allows pilgrims to obtain a plenary indulgence, in accordance with Pope Alexander III’s bull *Regis aeterni*, dated 1179.
