Da Fábrica ao Mural
O mural representa Jayme Planas Coronellas, fundador da antiga Fábrica de Lã de Santa Clara, estabelecida em 1888 na margem esquerda do Mondego, em Coimbra. Integrado no projeto FIO – Memórias como Matéria-Prima, promovido pela Câmara Municipal e pela plataforma Mistaker Maker, o retrato foi criado em 2016 pelo artista urbano João Samina, no contexto da reabertura do Convento São Francisco como espaço cultural. A obra integra um conjunto de intervenções que disseminam, pelo centro histórico e arredores do antigo complexo fabril, os rostos de trabalhadores e protagonistas ligados à indústria têxtil local, ativa até 1980. Este mural, localizado nas escadas de São Bartolomeu, funciona como um marcador visual da memória operária de Coimbra, articulando património industrial, arte urbana e políticas de revalorização do espaço público. Ao inscrever a figura de Coronellas na paisagem contemporânea, o projeto liga a expansão industrial oitocentista às atuais estratégias de preservação da identidade urbana.
The mural depicts Jayme Planas Coronellas, founder of the former Santa Clara Wool Factory, established in 1888 on the left bank of the Mondego River in Coimbra. Part of the FIO – Memories as Raw Material project, promoted by the City Council and the Maker Maker platform, the portrait was created in 2016 by urban artist João Samina, in conjunction with the reopening of the São Francisco Convent as a cultural space. The work is part of a series of interventions that display, throughout the historic center and the surroundings of the former factory complex, the faces of workers and key figures linked to the local textile industry, which remained active until 1980. This mural, located on the São Bartolomeu stairs, serves as a visual marker of Coimbra’s working-class memory, linking industrial heritage, urban art, and policies for the revitalization of public space. By inscribing the figure of Coronellas into the contemporary landscape, the project connects 19th-century industrial expansion to current strategies for preserving urban identity.
